FIRE PREVENTION
Fire is probably the most devastating type of home loss with
the greatest risk of loss of life to the residents. Anything that
can be done to avert it should be done.
SAFETY TIPS
Candles are pretty and relaxing but are the cause of many a home fire.
Consider some of the very pretty and realistic electric devices that mimic candles
and their flicker. Much, much safer.
Don't leave burning candles unattended even for a second. Pets, billowing
curtains, and children can tip them over and start a fire.
Don't have lit candles if there is a potential that you might get drowsy and fall
asleep.
Don't smoke in bed.
Keep frying pans on the back burner away from small hands and never leave a
stove with burners on unattended.
Keep a fire extinguisher near the stove in view. Check in per the manufactures'
instructions for a full charge One should also be on the wall in the garage.
Be extremely cautious when using deep turkey fryers. Do not use them indoors,
in close proximity to your house or on or near any structure that could ignite.
Do not use propane devices in a confined area. Do not use gasoline as a cleaner
or solvent. The vapors from both of these chemicals are explosive and heavier
than air. The vapors will move along the floor until they encounter a flame or
spark and then they will explode.
Check your smoke detectors at least once a year. A good reminder is daylight
savings time. When setting your clocks also check your smoke detectors to make
sure they work. They can be life savers if they function.
